Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the PerCuriam application ("the app"). By using the app you agree to them. They are written to be read; if anything is unclear, contact us at amalacornel@gmail.com.

1. What PerCuriam is

PerCuriam is a privacy-first, on-device text-to-speech reader for legal and other documents. All document processing, text extraction, and speech synthesis happen on your device. The app does not send your document content to any server for processing.

2. Free and Professional

The app has two tiers:

• Free — unlimited listening and all core reading features (including Focused reading), the default voice (Kristin), up to 5 matters, and a library of up to 10 documents.
• Professional — a paid subscription that adds all four voices, unlimited matters and library, end-to-end-encrypted sync and backup across your devices, AI Briefs, and priority report handling.

3. Billing, renewal, and cancellation

• Subscriptions are sold and billed through Google Play. Payment is charged to your Google account.
• A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds are handled by Google Play under its policies. If a purchase is not acknowledged by the app within three days, Google automatically refunds it.
• If a renewal payment fails, Google may place the subscription in a grace period (your Professional features continue) and then on hold (features return to Free-tier limits). Nothing you created is deleted; restoring payment restores Professional.

4. Grandfathering and lapse

Introducing or changing tier limits never removes content you already have. If your library or matters exceed a Free limit — because you created them under Professional, or before limits existed — you keep all of them. Free limits only prevent creating new items beyond the limit until you are under it again.

If a subscription lapses, nothing is deleted or locked: you simply cannot add new items beyond Free limits, non-default voices stop synthesizing new audio (already-generated audio still plays), and sync stops uploading (your local library is untouched).

5. Your content and privacy

Your documents and their derived data stay on your device unless you turn on sync. When sync is on, data is end-to-end encrypted on your device before upload; the server stores only ciphertext and cannot read it. 6. Acceptable use

Use the app for lawful purposes and with documents you have the right to use. Do not attempt to circumvent tier limits, reverse-engineer the billing integrity checks, or resell the service.

7. Disclaimers

The app assists with reading documents aloud; it is not legal advice and may mispronounce or misread text. Verify anything important against the source document. The app is provided "as is" without warranties to the extent permitted by law.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; material changes will be noted by updating the date above and, where appropriate, an in-app notice. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
